Selective Prosecution

After the recent riots in UK, there was a lot of coverage of this 11 yr old boy who was among those arrested. And more importantly, among those who the British government said would be charged. I found that very surprising: was this the same British government that had leaned on Scotland a few months back to release the Libyan convicted over the Lockerbie bombing? So they want to release a convicted (by a Western court) mass murderer who is a foreigner but also charge a 11 year old who is a British citizen?

Back home, Kapil Sibal feels that Anna Hazare putting ultimatums to the government violates the “sanctity of Parliament”. So let me get this straight: as per the Congress, arresting Hazare for calling a spade a spade (saying that MP’s are criminals who won’t do a thing to prevent corruption) does more for the sanctity of Parliament than, say, weeding out corruption? Or how about hanging Afzal Guru, the man convicted of attacking Parliament in 2001. How launching a terrorist attack on Parliament is a lesser crime than anything Hazare may have done is something that only a Congressman can understand.

I just realized Sonia Gandhi is a lot smarter than I gave her credit for. She knew Manmohan Singh’s true nature long back. While the rest of us ignorant people had a good image of him, she knew his true nature: she recognized him to be an MP in the true Congressian mould, a man who believed that he doesn’t have to explain or justify anything he does, that his designation makes everything he does right, and who has a dictatorial streak in him. Great choice, Sonia!

  1. Drunk with power and corrupt money, the Congress is in such inebriated condition that they have neither the capacity to think correctly, speak coherently or act properly. The dirt of politics accumulated on them is so thick that they are now convinced that it is part of their own thick skin! Naturally they believe, "this will pass and we can happily go back to our business of corruption without an iota of worry or fear."

What our politicians (of all parties, not just the Congress) never recognized is that the nation is very, very sick of the politicians who are no good for nation's care but are extremely good at robbing the people's wealth. The politicians were all along unmindful of the vomit of the Indian people drenching them day in and day out, so long as the money taken was huge and the ill-deserved glory of power entertained them to their brim.

They are now forced to reckon with the rise of the people against their evil deeds. It is not Anna Hazare who is rallying the people. Anna Hazare is the instrument that the people have been longing for, to help come together to stand up against the enormity of our political corruption. The politicians are fighting very hard to retain their high ability for unchecked corruption. They are also making no bones about it! They are almost openly challenging, "check if you can out ability to loot!"

So, it is going to be a long, long fight for the nation and I am sure this struggle is more significant than the freedom movement. I sincerely pray that the politicians lose and honesty triumphs; otherwise it would be a shame for the nation. And it would amount to the defeat of dharma (i.e. the right thing).

As to Manmohan Singh, does anyone have any respect left for him? Is he there to keep declaring mildly, "I am personally not corrupt" while the loud un-uttered words are drowning us - "I support the corruption and looting of my party people with sincerity and give them unconditional support. I will divert the people's attention by promising to weed out corruption, while the loot can continue behind the scene!"? It is time for him to vacate the arena so that someone competent can take over.
