The Aamir Controversy
The Aamir Khan
controversy should never have happened. I feel Shobhaa
De nailed it when she wrote that it got triggered off simply “because of a
private miya-bibi conversation that was made public by the
hubby”. In any case, says De:
“Aamir gets massacred for making a
provocative comment. But wait a minute. Was it his comment? Nope. It was his
wife's. Did he say he agreed with her? Not that we know…Aamir revealed it was
Kiran who thought of moving to another country. Kiran. Not him.”
Having said
that, what exactly is this backlash against Aamir that some are so quick to
condemn? Almost all the backlash has been statements and tweets by others who
feel Aamir was exaggerating things beyond all reason; while others uninstalled
the Snapdeal app that Aamir endorses from their smartphones.
Clowns in AAP
like Ashutosh
are outraged by this perceived attempt “to put pressure on Snapdeal for its
association with Aamir is a new twist in the tale. This is a part of larger
design to ostracize individuals, isolate them and force them to succumb to the
bullies' ideology.” Really? So it’s ok for so called intellectuals to return
awards but not for the average smartphone owner to uninstall one lousy app from
his own phone?
Ashutosh then
continues his rant about how India is going the Pakistan way, with the state
endorsing only one religion. It is such insane reactions to the totally
peaceful reactions against Aamir’s comment that irritate many. Chetan Bhagat
hits the nail on the head with his tweet:
“Ok, wrong to label Islam as violent
after stray terror attack, But why did you label my entire country intolerant
after a few stray incidents?”
Who’s the
hypocrite now? Who has double standards? Suddenly the so called intellectuals
are exposed for how irrational they are, aren’t they?
Raveena Tandon’s
tweet to those scream India is becoming a very dangerous place was perfect:
“Wonder why they didn't feel fear when
bombs ripped the heart of mumbai.. Or our security was breached #26/11”
Is Raveena right
in her other tweet:
“Let's cut the BS-why can't these people
openly say that they weren't happy since d day Modi became PM..instead of
shaming the whole country”
And you thought
she was just a pretty face.
Like I said, the
Aamir controversy is silly. Though ironically, those who reacted against him
only voiced their opinion, something that is a fundamental right of both Aamir and his critics!
